Let's get political - and stop cruelty to animals!
Here we show three examples of urgent situations of ongoing cruelty to animals in Europe, and which should rapidly be given a vigorous review and action. There are other areas such as animal experiments, which also strongly need to be reviewed, then there are alternatives that can be used. Europe has an ECI - Stop Vivisection, where you can read more about this.
Due to the overwhelming number of companion animals who are suffering in Europe and that many number of them become abandoned each year increases (approximately 100 million animals are abandoned, 2014) - suggests that Member States do not have the ability or the will to ensure good animal welfare.
All member states with constant abused and abandoned companion animals have been EU members for many years, even decades, without helping these animals with introducing laws that are respected and followed - this demonstrates a disregard for animal suffering and member governments that do not comply with existing treaties and conventions.
There are already good ideas and programs to help companion animals and the management of stray dogs in Europe - the only thing missing is the willingness of European Union politicians, who have to change the Treaties so that this can take effect.
We want that companion animals rapidly will be covered by the EU Treaties. It is very urgent because of the massive suffering and abandonment that this group of animals get the help and support by common EU laws and directives. The EU Treaties must be amended immediately. The EU must stop to consider this decision and do it NOW!

There are about 7,200 fur farmers in EU Member States that are responsible for 60% of worldwide mink-fur production (China 24%) and 56% of fox-fur production (China 37,50%) - all together have Europe 60% of the world fur production (China 25%). Denmark is the leading mink-producing country, accounting for nearly 40% of world production.
This is a cruel business that does not serve any other function more than provide jobs in a corporate chain and torment animals for profit - then other modern materials can be used to replace fur. To claim that the fur industry provides jobs and creates family business is a sick justification if we look at the great suffering the animals are forced to. No creature should have to suffer for money or profit - we want to immediately ban all fur farms and fur management in Europe.

According to estimates, some one million animals (not including poultry) pass through the European Union each day. Cross-border trade, including imports from and exports to third countries (outside the EU), involves 20 million animals annually. Compassion in World Farming - the EU exports over 3.4 million animals a year – cattle, pigs and sheep – to non-EU countries. Some of the animals are exported for slaughter, others for fattening or breeding.
March 2013 - European Parliament misses opportunity to use CAP review to improve animal welfare - In 2005, the European Commission stopped granting subsidies for the export to third countries of live animals for slaughter, but they still remain for pure-bred breeding animals.
We want to stop all transport of live animals for slaughter - the animals to be slaughtered in a controlled way with stunning with national mobile slaughterhouses on the farm where the animals are born and raised - every animal must be checked by a veterinarian who inspects the animals' condition befor the death - all religious ritual slaughter must be banned.
All farms and activities dealing with animals should have installed video monitoring to assured that the animals live in good conditions - today happens too many acts of cruelty towards animals on farms and in and abattoir situations that the public often is not aware of.

We also want that meat consumption is reduced in Europe by establishing maximum limits for profit in the meat industry and the maximum limit of produced meat in proportion to population. Each European country should primarily support their own country and people, which is an important matter of fact, in order to curb the rapidly escalating cruel treatment and trade situation when it comes to live animals and the negative impact this means for all animals - This also applies to all establishments where by-products of slaughter waste is being used.
There must also be a common standard in Europe that classifies what organic farming means - in several European countries means only organic farming, that the animals eat organic feed, no other consideration are given, which mean that the animals can live in dark cramped buildings and may never come out.
Organic farming must mean that animal welfare is the priority, and standard for this to set high - it is very important that we go back to small-scale farming in the very near future.
Organic farming must both take account of animal ethics, animal feed and the environment. Organic farming must be prioritized and heavily subsidized by the EU so that conventional farming (meat factories) will be phased out completely.
Primarily needed introduced policies that prioritize education in animal ethics, welfare and a regional ethical and ecological interactions between animal welfare and a living landscape and sustainable environment and society. Therefore, we want all the so-called meat factories eliminated by setting a higher limit on how many animals are allowed in a business and farm sector.
Secondly, we want to work for a meat-free society and that financial support for research in artificial meat and similar increases.

The above statement is of ESDAW, but in line with Animal Partiers Manifesto.
We require a complete reforming of the animal welfare in Europe!
According to most EU citizens, animals are sentient beings - which also the EU announces - then we should also act accordingly, otherwise the EU's credibility in the context of ethical considerations will be undermined.
All animals have a right to a good life and should not be viewed only as an economic commodities - this attitude must cease immediately.
We want Europe to be a safe and kind place, where animals are not suffering - a good and ethical role model for other nations and continents.

Another municipal enclosure with sad souls - this time in Greece, 2013. This enclosure was abandoned by the municipality and the dogs were left to starve to death, but was discovered in time by the NGO.
Member States with millions of suffering animals - irresponsible owners - abandoned dogs and cats - have shown that they are unable to comply with national laws, conventions, guidelines or other obvious ethical standards.
There is no excuse for those countries showing this complete disregard for animal suffering. These countries are no longer credible on animal welfare issues - we strongly therefore ask the EU to embrace those suffering and abandoned souls and let the companion animals in to the treaties. Therefor, please vote on those candidates who work for the companion animals and millions of homeless cats and dogs - those poor animals who are still excluded from the EU legislation! Information concerning EU laws on animal welfare can be found in the website of Eurogroup for Animals, for example. Carodog.eu and Carocat.eu have listed international and European legislation and standards on their website. In general, there exist only a little EU legislation to protect companion animals and their welfare. Legislation concerning companion animals is mainly related to non-commercial movement of pets. Companion animals can not wait any longer - the atrocities must be stopped NOW! - the dogs and cats need EU legislation NOW! |
Let's get political for the animals!
